Business Associate Agreement
Last updated: February 2026
What Is a BAA?
A Business Associate Agreement (BAA) is a legally binding contract required by HIPAA between a Covered Entity (such as a healthcare provider) and a Business Associate (such as Zerapy) that handles Protected Health Information (PHI) on the Covered Entity's behalf. The BAA establishes the permitted uses and disclosures of PHI, requires appropriate safeguards, and defines breach notification obligations.
